A friend Val… asked that question.
To answer the question, we have to be aware that the Bible has Old Testament and New Testament. The Old Testament is the Jewish Scriptures or the Bible at time before Jesus. The word Bible did not exist then. The oldest books of the Old Testament was called by the Jewish people and still called, the Torah. It is believed done by Moses, they are five books: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. God almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth has chosen people in whom he was pleased with their faithfulness to Him, like Abraham and Moses called friend of God. What happened was transmitted orally until somebody decided to write down. Their writings were God's will and inspired by God. Around year 250 BC, the Septuagint was made. That is the Old Testament in the Catholic Bible. They compiled the Scriptures in Hebrew and translated to Greek. That was the Old Testament in time of Jesus. Bible was not known yet. Jesus told the Apostles to preach the Good News. That is spoken word of God or Sacred Traditions. Some of them and others wrote down again inspired by God. Later it was called the New Testament (the Scriptures after Jesus). The Way was the name Apostles chose for the Church that Jesus established that born on Pentecost 30 AD. The leader was St. Peter, Apostle of Jesus and the first pope. The named was changed to the Catholic Church around second century. Year 381 AD Pope Damasus I asked St. Jerome to translated the writings that were considered inspired by God to Latin. The year 393 AD, the successors of the Apostles or the Bishops at that time met in the Council of Hippo to declare what writings were definitely inspired by God. What they chose were exactly the Catholic Bible. That is known even by Protestants the Christian Canon of the Scriptures. St. Augustine was in that Council. St. Jerome completed his task by 405 AD and was called the Vulgate. That was the first time that Old Testament and New Testament were together, like today's Bibles. The word Bible came from Greek Biblia that means the books. It was used early in Christianity. St Jerome called Bibliotheca Divina or Divine Library. Latin used Biblia and translated into English is Bible.
Summary, the Bible that we have now came from the Catholic Church that established the Christian Canon of Scriptures in 393 AD. God created the Bible through men that were inspired by Him. I hope that answered your question. Let me know. There are more details available.
